BECKLEY (WVVA) -- Firefighters from Mount Hope and Beckley are en route to fight wildfires out west.

First Class Robert Donelow of the Beckley Fire Department left yesterday morning.  He's expected to spend his time in Idaho.

Donelow has had to take three additional tests with the fire department and the National Park Service to qualify to go.  He's also a certified EMT for his unit.

Donelow is taking his own vacation time to help battle the wildfires.

"Whenever someone goes away like that you are always concerned about them, especially in light of the tragedy that happened with the Hot Shots," says Chief Billie Trump, Beckley Fire Department.  "But we all stand behind him.  It's something he wanted to do, so we're all in favor of him doing it."

At least eight firefighters from the Beckley Fire Department have made the trip to fight wildfires.
