Some Mercer Co. households connected to water lines

OAKVALE, W.Va. (AP) -- Almost 400 households in Mercer County no longer have to rely on wells for water.

A valve-turning ceremony is scheduled Friday to celebrate completion of a water line extension.
The extension will serve customers in the Oakvale area.

Oakvale Road Public Service District manager Pamela Browning tells the Bluefield Daily Telegraph that many of the residents' wells were contaminated with E. coli and coliform bacteria.

Browning says funding is being sought for another water extension project in the Elgood-Cheesy Creek area.
