PREVIEW: Mount View eager to build on success of 2012

WELCH (WVVA) - It had been a rough couple of years for the Mount View football program, but, under new head coach Todd McCoy, the Golden Knights were able to turn things around in 2012.

After snapping a 40-game losing streak to grab three straight, the team feels like they can conquer the world... or at least, class AA.

"Once we got that first win, we knew we could do it. It built our confidence up," said center CJ Lester.

"It ain't like it's one person's team, added running back Laquell Martin. "We're an 11 man team. 11 people gotta play on offense and defense."

The numbers on the team are much bigger this year, and a lot of time in the weight room has the team physically bigger too.

"We're bigger, we're stronger. We've got a lot of speed on the team, so we've got a lot of athletes this year," said linebacker Donnell Bonds.

And this strength in numbers makes all the players that much more excited for what's to come this year.

"We're doing good, we're up here practicing hard," Bonds added. "We're working trying to get some wins this year. We're trying to make playoffs."
