Health Fair offers screenings, education to Mercer County residents

PRINCETON (WVVA) - It's National Health Center Week and the Bluestone Health Center took part by giving back to the community with a Health Fair Wednesday.

The center offered free screenings including blood pressure, cholesterol, and free mammograms.

Health experts say the biggest health concerns in Mercer County are diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease.

They say it's important for people to become aware of health problems they may have and to start making positive changes in their lifestyles such as eating right and exercising more.

"The key thing is people taking an interest in their own medical care and desiring to make changes," said Dr. William C. Byrd of the Bluestone Health Center. "I've found over the years unless people really want to make changes they're not going to and we can beg and plead all we want but unless they're ready, they're not going to."

Bonnie's Bus -- a digital mammography center -- was also at the fair offering digital mammograms and breast care education to women.
