Manchin hears concerns of area business community

BECKLEY (WVVA) - Sen. Joe Manchin made a stop in Beckley Wednesday morning to hear concerns facing the local business community.

Among the issues discussed at the roundtable discussion held at the Raleigh County Public Library were job creation, a clean workforce, affordable health care and the ongoing fight to maintain jobs in the coal industry.

"The government has got to understand, this is a fuel source that we need," Manchin said of coal. "Forty-one percent of the world's energy comes from coal. And 40 percent of the United State's energy comes from coal. And we can do it better, we can use it in a cleaner fashion, but we need our government working with us as a partner."

Manchin said he would take the feedback received in Beckley back to Capitol Hill. The Senator was also scheduled to visit the State Fair in Lewisburg later Wednesday before meeting with business leaders in Greenbrier County.
