HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Marshall guard Elijah Pittman has been indicted on a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from an October 2012 fight.
Media outlets report a Cabell County grand jury indicted Pittman last month.
Court documents show Pittman and another man were involved in the altercation just off Marshall's campus.
Pittman led Marshall in scoring with 16 points per game last season.
Marshall released a statement Tuesday saying it was aware of the incident and would handle it "internally and appropriately."
The Marshall men's basketball team leaves for a five-game exhibition trip to Canada on Friday. Marshall athletics spokesman Jason Corriher says Pittman will accompany the team.
It wasn't known whether Pittman has an attorney.
