New Bluefield leadership comes with challenges

BLUEFIELD, W. Va (WVVA)-- A new board begins its reign in Bluefield, West Virginia.

The new leadership held their first meeting today. Citizens came to voice their concerns, from noise in a local park to veterans recognition.

But one man, Dr. William White, told the board he is upset with the Bluefield Rescue Squad. He says his sick step-father did not get their help when he needed it.

"I can't believe the city of Bluefield can't help their old people. That's what the rescue squads are for. That's what the fire department is for. I'm angry," he said.

Bluefield Rescue leaders say sometimes, their staffing determines which calls they can take.

"Our policy is that we don't tie that last crew up with basic ambulance transport or service," said Sam Pennington on behalf of Bluefield Rescue.

The Rescue Squad will meet with Dr. White to work out the issue and go over the 911 calls to determine what happened.
