Two old schools alumni say are filled with memories, demolished

RAINELLE (WVVA) -- All good things must come to an end, and that's the case for two old schools in Greenbrier County.

The old high school and primary school in Rainelle are being demolished Monday and Tuesday.

The schools were built in the mid 1940s and early 1920a, respectively.

A new Rainelle Elementary School has been built just behind the old high school.

Bystanders at the demolition and alumni have mixed feelings about the demolition.

"Well its sort of bittersweet," says Loretta Jones, Rainelle High School class of 1952.  "I know that it's time for us to go into a new building.  However it is sad to see the building go down, but you know I know it's time."

The buildings are expected to be completely demolished by Tuesday evening, but some old memorabilia is preserved at the new elementary school.
