Beckley -

BECKLEY, W. Va (WVVA)-- 19-year old Gaston Smith is charged with first degree murder in connection with the death of 20-year old Darien Blaney.

But in court Friday, Smith said it was self-defense.

The case is now moving forward in the court system.

Friday afternoon a magistrate found probable cause to send the case to the grand jury during Smith's preliminary hearing.

The shooting happened July 29th at the intersection of Cannaday and Mulberry Streets in East Beckley.

Blaney was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Investigators say the two men had been arguing for a long time.
