BECKLEY (WVVA) -- A school system in southern West Virginia is combating the state's low national ranking for education and technology.

Starting this year, Raleigh County will be the first county in the state to offer one to one technology for students.

Kids in grades three and up will all have their own iPads, and teachers will all have their own iPads, MacBooks and Apple TVs.

Teachers are back in school early to maximize their teaching potential for students.

"Whether [students] are college bound or graduate and start working in a career, you have to have technology skills or you just can't compete.  You know, everything we do, every part of life involves using technology these days," says Mary Ann Foster, the technology coordinator for Raleigh County Schools.

In addition to Thursday and Friday's training, teachers will have to undergo seven additional training session during the school year.
