$1 million Powerball ticket sold in Va.

RICHMOND (NEWS RELEASE) - Although the jackpot-winning tickets in the August 7 Powerball drawing were not bought in Virginia, the Commonwealth benefited from the excitement.

During the jackpot run that began after the June 22 drawing and continued until Wednesday's drawing, sales of Powerball tickets in Virginia generated an estimated $8.8 million in profit. By law, all of that profit goes to K-12 public schools in the Commonwealth.

More than 108,000 Powerball tickets bought in Virginia won prizes in last night's drawing, ranging from $4 to a ticket that won $1 million. That million-dollar ticket was bought at Giant Food, 7137 Columbia Pike in Annandale.

An additional 3 tickets in Virginia each won $10,000. Those tickets were bought in Newport News, Front Royal and Arlington.
