SWCC President discusses changes to campus

TAZEWELL COUNTY, W. Va. (WVVA)- Enrollment is down, a food court is changing its method of service, and an investigation into why is being proposed.

Southwest  Virginia Community College says they are going through a transitional period and looking for new ways to provide more convenience for the students and cut costs.

This fall, the school will stop serving hot cafeteria style meals in the dining hall and replace the service with vending machines.

President Mark Estepp says all other schools in the community college system have already dropped their hot meals service.

He says efforts to convince a fast-food chain to take over the service were unsuccessful.

However, a retired employee says he believes someone should still examine how the college is handling their money and the president says he welcomes that.

The group that is against these changes plans to meet with the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors tomorrow night to address the issue.
