EXCLUSIVE: Manchin tells EPA chief 'War on Coal' must stop

WASHINGTON D.C. (WVVA) - U.S. Senator Joe Manchin says he and a West Virginia told the new EPA chief that a continued 'War on Coal' will have dire ramifications on the Mountain State.

Manchin -- in a first -- spoke live with WVVA News from his Washington office during Thursday evening's 6 p.m. newscast on the meeting that took place hours earlier.

Manchin said he invited new EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy to visit West Virginia to see first-hand the impact strict regulations on the coal industry have had on the state.

Manchin said he felt McCarthy was receptive to the concerns expressed by himself and the delegation.

Manchin said the meeting was productive, and is hopeful the coal industry, state lawmakers and the EPA can work together moving forward.
