Local organization dedicated to fighting drug abuse gets donation

ATHENS, W. Va (WVVA)-- A local organization dedicated to helping people kick drug addictions gets a big donation.

Thursday, R & M stables donated all the proceeds of its horse show at Bluefield City Park to Appalachian Teen Challenge in Athens.

That's $6283.00.

Leaders at Appalachian Teen Challenge say the money will go toward school visits, counseling, and other ways they reach out to people in need.

Graduates from the program tell WVVA they're glad this money will help people like them.

"There's so many things [ATC] has done for me," said recent program graduate Travis Poss. "It's restored my family, it's given me a complete new future and outlook on life. And God's opened up doors I never thought were possible. It's changed my life in such a way that I want others to have that same opportunity I had."

Appalachian Teen Challenge uses faith-based methods to help addicted teens as well as adults kick the habit. They operate entirely on donations like this.
