Challenger Little League gives handicapped children opportunity to play

SHADY SPRING (WVVA) - From April through July, twice a week, teams with the Challenger Little League fill the Shady Spring Little League Field.

But the scoreboard stays off.

This game isn't about keeping score or who wins or loses. It's about giving mentally and physically handicapped kids a chance to play baseball with their friends.

The Challenger Little League welcomes kids from age 4 to age 18 to participate.

The game lasts for two innings, where each player gets two chances to bat and two chances in the field.

The players basically run free -- the runs don't count in a scorebook -- and in the end, nobody is crowned a winner or loser.

Because in this league, everybody wins.

Sports Director Jaime Baker recently spent time with the Challenger Little League and the remarkable players who play for their love of the game.
