BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - The new leadership of the city of Bluefield was officially sworn in Thursday morning.

Those taking the oath to lead the city were new Mayor Tom Cole, Vice Mayor Barbara Thompson Smith and board members Ellen Peters Light, Michael Gibson and Chuck McGonagle.

The board members were elected in June's municipal election and they say they are looking forward to what they can bring to Bluefield. "We're praying that Bluefield will come alive and be part of the Bluefield that we use to have," said Barbara Thompson Smith.

A local business owner says he hopes the new board can bring more business to the downtown area. "I think we have the nucleus of a downtown and we have to develop it and expand it," stated Art Riley, owner of Landmark Antiques.

Members say in order to do their best, they are going to need the communities help. "Anything they see in the community that we can do to make Bluefield better, please call city hall," stated Smith.

The number for city hall is 304-327-2401.
