UPDATE:

WVVA has learned new details about a shooting in McDowell County.

Police say Daren Wood, 48, of Bartley, shot his wife Angela Wood, in the leg at their home in the 500 Camp area of Bartley, McDowell County.

He then held her without medical treatment for two days.

During that time, he was drunk, said Sgt. James E. Muncy Jr with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Muncy added that Wood kept Angela upstairs.

According to court documents, Wood beat her in around her head and face, then threatened to kill her. She told police he placed the gun to her head, then moved it to her leg and shot her, telling her if she tried to get medical help he would kill her.

She remained trapped in the house for two days until Wood passed out and she was able to crawl downstairs and call 911.

Angela Wood is in and out of the hospital for treatment of her wounds.

Daren Wood faces charges of wanton endangerment, malicious wounding, domestic battery, domestic assault and brandishing.

A pretrial date has not yet been set.

BARTLEY, W. Va (WVVA)-- Daren Eugene Wood, 48, of Bartley, an unincorporated area of McDowell County, was arraigned before a magistrate Wednesday night.

He told WVVA he doesn't remember what happened.

Wood faces charges of wanton endangerment, malicious wounding, domestic battery, domestic assault and brandishing after police say he shot his wife in the leg, then kept her without medical treatment for 2 days.

Deputies say she was able to get away Wednesday and call 911.

McDowell County Magistrate Steve Cox set Wood's bond at $100,000. Wood will be held in a McDowell County holding facility before he is taken to jail.

BARTLEY (WVVA) - A McDowell County man has been arrested after police say he shot and beat his wife, then held her against her will for two days.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a shooting at a home in the Bartley area.

Upon arrival, deputies say they discovered that Daren Eugene Wood, 48, had shot his wife in the leg and beat hear approximately two days earlier, then kept her against her will without medical treatment.

Police say the 44-year-old wife, whose name has not been released, was able to use the phone Wednesday to call authorities without her husband's knowledge.

Wood has been charged with wanton endangerment, malicious wounding, domestic battery, domestic assault and brandishing.

He is being held at the McDowell County Holding Unit pending arraignment.

The victim was transported to Welch Emergency Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg and bruising to the facial area.
