BHS assistant principal named Distinguished Scholar

PRINCETON --  The West Virginia Center for Professional Development (WVCPD) has selected Michael Morgan as a 2013 New Principals' Leadership Academy Distinguished Scholar.  According to WVCPD Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Dixie Billheimer, the honor is awarded to participants who submit exceptional action plans during the Academy for new principals.

Formerly a Iaeger High School P.E. teacher and then Dean of Students at Riverview High School, Morgan assumed the duties of Assistant Principal at Bluefield High School last year.  In that role, he works closely with Principal Michael Collins, Dean of Students Sabrina Leath-Morrison, and Activities Coordinator Kimberly Miller.

Morgan's action plan, called "Adopt a Beaver," would initiate a mentorship program for ninth-grade students at BHS at risk of failing or dropping out of school.

Morgan and his wife, Malorie, have a three-year-old son and 1-month-old daughter.

The BHS administrator and fellow PLA Distinguished Scholars will be honored at a luncheon on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Marriott Hotel in Charleston, WV.
