Private College Week

BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has proclaimed July 29 through August 3 Private College Week.

"Virginia's private colleges and universities strengthen the Commonwealth's higher education system and are as old as our nation itself," said Governor McDonnell in his statement. "Visiting campuses is an important step in the college search process, and the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia invites high school students and their families to explore the educational opportunities available at private colleges during Private College Week."

Bluefield College will host a series of open house assemblies featuring campus tours and valuable information sessions throughout the week.

Director of Traditional Admissions, Mark Hipes says, "You should be going into your senior year knowing those top three or five schools that you're wanting to apply to and then have those detailed visits."

Rising high school juniors and seniors and their families are invited to participate by attending one of the open house sessions on the Bluefield College campus, starting at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 29 through August 2, or at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 3.

Prospective students who visit Bluefield College and at least two other CICV colleges during Virginia Private College Week will receive application fee waivers from each of the three institutions, exempting them from the usual application fees charged by the colleges.

Students planning to visit the BC campus are encouraged to register prior to the event by contacting the BC Admissions Office by phone at 800-872-0176 (x4340) or by email at For more information, visit
