UPDATE: Inmates captured in Nicholas County

UPDATE: RICHWOOD (WVVA) - The West Virginia State Police say both inmates who escaped from a Pocahontas County facility early Sunday were apprehended in the Richwood area of Nicholas County Monday morning.

Thomas Pennington and Larry Morehead are believed to escaped from the medium-security Denmar Correctional Center by scaling a chain-link fence at the rear of the prison, Warden Mark Williamson tells the Associated Press.

Pennington, 40, was serving a sentence for murder and sexual assault. Morehead, 48, was sentenced for sexual assault.

More details on the capture were expected to be released later.


HILLSBORO (WVVA) - Authorities warned residents to be on alert Sunday morning after a pair of inmates -- one convicted of murder, the other of sexual assault -- escaped from the Denmar Correctional Center in Pocahontas County, W.Va.

Thomas Pennington, was serving a sentence for Murder and Sexual Assault. He is from Kanawha County. He is described as a 5'11" 190-pound, white male with brown hair and blue eyes.

Larry Morehead was serving a sentence for sexual assault and is from Nicholas County. He is described as a 5'8" 225-pound, white male with strawberry blonde hair.

Both escaped from the facility at approximately 1:30 a.m., according to the West Virginia State Police.

Greenbrier County's Office of Homeland Security warned residents to keep property locked and secured and not to engage any suspicious persons.

If you notice anything suspicious or have any information on the escapees' whereabouts, you are urged to call 911 or your local authorities immediately.
