Tazewell's Hash wins Blue Ridge Junior Golf tourney in Abingdon

ABINGDON (PRESS RELEASE) - Glenrochie Country Club located in Abingdon, VA played host to the Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour on Tuesday July 23.

Sixty-two players participated and enjoyed a fantastic day on the sprawling and attractive 18 hole lay-out that featured the help of numerous volunteers and staff. 

"Having survived a tornado in 2011, the course and clubhouse facility looked better than ever," said Dewayne Belcher. 

"It is truly a testament to the commitment of the club to maintain a quality golf experience.  This club has proven its value to the Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour throughout our 15 year existence and it is obvious that they enjoy and promote junior golf."

Following are the results.

16-18 Age Group  Par 72  6337 yards

Blake Hash of Tazewell, VA overcame a sluggish start to win the age group with a score of 3 over par 75.  Hash, a new member of the Bluefield State Golf Team, made double bogey on the first two holes before playing the remaining 16 holes at one under par.  Peyton Garrett of Damascus, VA was one shot back with a 76.  Jared Porter of Princeton, WV was 3rd with a score of 77.

14-15 Age Group  Par 72  5747 yards

Dylan Wooten of Sparta, NC won the competitive age group with a score of 76.  Joseph Clark of Pearisburg, VA was second one shot back.  Tying for third with scores of 78 was Maxwell Dillon of Wytheville, VA and David Simonsen of Johnson City, TN.

12-13 Age Group  Par 72  4996 yards

Christopher Zhang of Blacksburg, VA won the age group with a score of 78.  Noah Clark of Pearisburg, VA and B Davis of Radford, VA tied for 2nd with scores of 81.

10-12 Age Group Par  35  2362 yards

Avery Alexander of Christiansburg, VA won on the first hole of a play-off to defeat Noah Moler of Newport, VA. Both players had completed the 9 hole course with scores of 42.  Jason Hall of Dublin, VA was 3rd with a score of 45.

9 and Under Age Group  Par 35  1848 yards

Aiden Alexander of Christiansburg, VA recorded a score of 54 to win the age group.  Benson Blevins of Wytheville, VA was second with a score of 56.

The Tour continues next week with the season ending Tour Championship.  Day 1 will be held at the Tazewell County Country Club located in Pounding Mill, VA on Monday July 29.  The second day will conclude the season and be played at Fincastle on the Mountain located in Bluefield, VA.
