McDowell man busted making meth in moving vehicle

PANTHER (WVVA) - A McDowell County man faces multiple charges after police say he was cooking meth while driving -- then led police on a chase in a stolen cruiser.

Deputies with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office stopped Ricky Monroe Johnson, 30, of Panther at 12:57 p.m. Monday -- in the Panther area -- and determined that the suspect was driving under the influence, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Upon further investigation, deputies discovered a mobile methamphetamine lab in the process of cooking inside the vehicle.

During the stop, the suspect was able to flee, steal a sheriff's office vehicle and leave the scene.

Other members of the sheriff's office and the State Police were able to apprehend the suspect as short time later.

Johnson faces charges of operating a clandestine lab, fleeing in a vehicle, obstructing an officer, grand larceny, DUI and fleeing while DUI.

Johnson is currently being held in the McDowell County Holding Unit.
