Greenbrier Co. drowning victim identified

LAKE SHERWOOD (WVVA) - The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources continues to investigate a weekend drowning in Greenbrier County.

It happened Saturday night around 8 p.m. on Lake Sherwood.

A DNR spokesperson says the victim, 40-year old Luke Hess of Bradley was fishing on the lake with another passenger in a boat when a storm hit.

As the two tried to make it to shore, one of the oars from the boat fell into the water. Hess reached for it and the boat tipped over.

The passenger swam to shore and went for help. Hess was later found on the edge of the lake holding a life jacket.
