Storms bring flooding rains to the area


Bluefield (WVVA) -- Isolated, slow-moving thunderstorms came through the 2 Virginias again Friday afternoon, bringing heavy rain to many.

Flash Flooding occurred across northern Fayette, northern Summers and western to central Greenbrier counties during the evening and night Friday from these heavy thunderstorms.

Fayette county 911 dispatch reported a water rescue in the Hico area. A person was rescued safely from their vehicle.

WVVA received reports of flooded roadways around the Lawn and Dawson areas.

Severe thunderstorms also brought several trees down in Giles county, near Pearisburg. A mudslide and sinkholes were also reported along route 100 and Meadows road near Staffordsville in Giles county.

The WVVA Weather Team will be tracking more thunderstorms Saturday evening and Sunday, which are capable of bringing prolonged heavy rain, which may again lead to flash flooding.
