John Ellison House project moving forward with help from scouts

LANDGRAFF, W. Va (WVVA)-- A troop of scouts traveled to McDowell County again Thursday.

They're working on preparing the site of the future John Ellison House.

The singer has teamed up with the City of Welch and county officials to build a replica of his childhood home near Landgraff and make it a museum.

And now with help from 46 scouts, it's a step closer to reality.

John Ellison was also working with the scouts as they worked on the property. He said, "It humbles me. And I'm glad everyone can see the vision that I have seen."

But the three troops working on the project were actually international troops, hailing from Canada, Norway, and Guatemala.

They worked on the future site of the John Ellison House, getting dirty and clearing away brush to prepare the land.

John says he's thrilled to have their help.

"My main objective here is to do something that will boost the economy here in West Virginia and in McDowell County where I'm from."

The scouts even sang songs from their homelands while they raked, picked, and clipped the brush away.
