GLEN JEAN (WVVA) - Thousands of Boy Scouts converged on the Summit Bechtel Reserve in Fayette County Tuesday to officially begin the 2013 National Jamboree.

An estimated 40,000 Scouts are in southern West Virginia for the event. This year marks the first that the Jamboree has been held at the Fayette County location.

The day's festivities began with a time capsule burial ceremony, which also featured music from the Jamboree Band.

The opening show was scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
