UPDATE: Bluefield Police investigate robbery, shooting on Cumberland Rd.


BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - Investigators believe an early-morning shooting at a Bluefield motel is connected to a nearby robbery that occurred less than two hours earlier.

The Bluefield Police Department responded to a robbery at Patty's video lottery parlor in the Bluefield Plaza on Cumberland Road around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators say the business was robbed a knifepoint. A suspect -- 29-year-old Larry Kidd of Bluefield -- was taken into custody.

Nearly two hours later, at approximately 3:45 a.m., police responded to a shooting at the Economy Inn -- also on Cumberland Road.

A victim in the shooting, Jason Kinser was transported to a Roanoke hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

Investigators now say that Kinser was involved at thePatty's robbery. WVVA News will provide further details as they are made available.


BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- The search is on for a suspect after an early morning shooting in Mercer County on Tuesday.

Dispatchers said it happened at the Economy Inn in Bluefield on Cumberland Road just after 3:15a.m.

According to 911 operators, one person was transported to an area hospital. 

At this point, the extent of the individual's injuries are unclear.

Detectives with the Bluefield City Police Dept. are investigating.
