PRINCETON (WVVA) - A former Princeton High School counselor who fled the state in 2012 prior to his sentencing on a child porn conviction has pleaded not guilty to a charge of failing to appear in court.

Brett Bowyer, 34, of Scarbro in Fayette County, entered the plea in Federal Court in Bluefield Monday.

Bowyer was indicted by a federal grand jury last month, following his arrest in Florida after being pulled over for a routine traffic violation.

Bowyer -- who pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography in October 11 -- had been sought by authorities ever since he failed to show up for his May 30, 2012 sentencing.

A Sept. 17 trial date has been set for the failure to appear charge.

There's no word at this time on sentencing for the child porn conviction.
