Fireball seen over several states in the southeast

Bluefield, WV (WVVA) -- Just after midnight on Saturday morning, many who were outdoors or looking out the window may have seen a bright flash and fiery streak across the night sky.

The American Meteor Society page has 60+ reports from North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Georgia of a fireball sighting.

A fireball is a brighter than normal meteor that can range in brightness and color. Thousands of fireballs are seen and reported every year across the world.

Reports of the Saturday morning fireball here in the two Virginia's, were of a very bright, bluish meteor. Some reported a loud bang or boom with the visual, which is not uncommon with fireballs.

No official report has been issued to confirm a fireball.
