CEDAR BLUFF (WVVA) – High School students got a chance to experience college thanks to a program through Southwest Virginia Community College on Wednesday.

The SWCC Governor's Summer School for Science & Technology provides students in the Virginia counties of Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell and Tazewell the opportunity to have hands on exploration in career fields of Technology and Life Sciences and Medicine.

Medical mobile lab simulators allowed students to experience delivering a baby and working on a patient inside an ambulance.

Students will receive six college credits for completing this program.

With the support of the Virginia Board of Education and the General Assembly, the Governor's Schools presently include summer residential, summer regional, and academic-year programs serving more than 7,500 gifted students from all parts of the commonwealth.

The program began on July 8, 2013 and will come to an end of July 25, 2013.
