Veterans find civilian job opportunities in Raleigh Co.

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- A national initiative is in Southern West Virginia to help veterans find jobs.

Hiring Our Heroes was founded last year.  Since then, they've helped more than 18,000 veterans and military spouses find work.

This is their third time in West Virginia.  They visited the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center Wednesday.  While in Beckley, they're brining in employers from all over Southern West Virginia and local head hunters to push their efforts.

"The attention to detail, learning to wake up every morning, it is just all qualities that the employers are looking for in an employee," says Steven Ellison, a local veterans representative for Workforce West Virginia.

Hiring Our Heroes will be in Morgantown in September and in Vienna, near Parkersburg, in December.

To contact the veteran, we spoke with in our newscast, Jake Smalley, you can reach him at
