UC Beckley enters into partnership with New River Community and Technical College

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- The University of Charleston is expanding again, but in a different way.  Tuesday they signed an articulation agreement with New River Community and Technical College.  This will allow New River students to easily transition to U-C after completing their associate's degree.

They hope this will keep students from having to repeat classes, spending more money, and that they'll be able to map out their futures better.

"To expand their horizons, to expand their possibilities, to expand their dreams," says Dr. Ed Welch, president of University of Charleston, of the students that will take advantage of the agreement.  "Together I believe we can provide a variety of services and educational opportunities for the community, inside the classroom, outside the classroom, sharing in a variety of ways."

"It makes it a very good opportunity that they may stay here once they finish so they can contribute not only their knowledge that they've learned, but new skills in the community and maybe grow a new business or venture into another operation and be the CEO or maybe take my job!" says Dr. Marshall Washington, president of New River.

This could open the door for more shared agreements, according to both presidents.  They're looking to share faculty and equipment.
