Fayette County introduces a police academy for kids

FAYETTEVILLE (WVVA) -- Police in Fayetteville are giving kids a hands on look at just what it takes to be a police officer.

They're teaming up with other agencies in Fayette County to host a Youth Police Academy.  The academy is being held from July 22-26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. everyday at the new Fayette County 911 Center.  Ages 10-15 are welcome.

This is the first year for the academy.

"We just want to show kids what we do, patrol concepts.  We have the sheriff's department coming over to help with forensics.  SWAT team's coming in.  We're having K-9 demos, and we're going to be doing some PT with them, some physical training.  It's going to be fun," says Tyler Hogan, a patrol officer in Fayetteville.

There's no cost for the academy.  Interested kids or parents can pick up an application at the Fayetteville Police Department.
