Princeton Renaissance Project takes over Mercer Street

PRINCETON (WVVA) -- Mercer Street is getting a new look all thanks to a new initiative aimed at attracting new business development in downtown Princeton.

A group started the Princeton Renaissance Project which includes redoing some of the murals downtown and renovating the old Lavon Theatre. The theater was built in the 1930's and was originally named the Royal Theatre.

It was changed to Lavon in the mid 60's. For the past 20 years the building has served as a church.

The group needs to raise $80,000 by December 15, 2013 for the purchase of the theater building. They will then continue to raise money to purchase a new projector, screens, and other things the theater needs.
