Hokie 8 under after day 1 of Greenbrier Classic

Posted:

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS (WVVA) - Round one of the 2013 Greenbrier Classic saw low scores for many.

The day was especially big for Virginia Tech grad Johnson Wagner who birded five holes en route to an 8 under par -- good enough to top the leaderboard.

Wagner shared the lead after day one with American Tommy Gainey.

Among other big names, Phil Mickelson struggled again on the Old White TPC, finishing day one four over after triple-bogeying hole 17.

After starting shaky, Bubba Watson was able to finish strong and shoot 2 under.

Just below the leaders was Webb Simpson -- who continued his strong play at the Classic, finishing 6 under for the day.
