Youth golfers get chance to learn from pros

WHITE SULPLHUR SPRINGS (WVVA) – Youth golfers from the Mountain State were given the chance to learn from the pros Tuesday during the First Tee Foundation Luncheon at the Greenbrier.

James Monroe senior Ike Judy has spent a lot of time playing golf in his life. The Maverick has also gotten involved in the state's junior tournaments and gained a lot of credibility. On Tuesday, the First Tee offered him the chance to step up to the next level and play with a pro.

"It's really a great opportunity to kind of spread the word and everything," Judy said. "Playing with a professional, it's something I've never done."

Judy is looking to follow the footsteps of Jordan Spieth a 19-year-old amateur making waves in the PGA over the last few weeks.

"One of the great stories recently is Keegan Bradley coming out  and nobody knows who he was and he came out and just started winning," Spieth said. "All it takes is some confidence. So, hopefully, we instilled that on those kids."

The thing about success in golf is the same in any sport you play -- if you put in the time and effort, you'll succeed. And that's exactly what the James Monroe senior and the PGA amateur are both trying to do.
