    MONTCALM, W.Va. (AP) -- A barn demolition project in Mercer County has uncovered a 19th century log school. Brian Pigg discovered the hand-hewn logs at his barn's core while removing siding. The barn is located on Browning Lambert Mountain in the Montcalm area. Retired Montcalm High School history teacher Jack Johnson tells the Bluefield Daily Telegraphthat the log structure was once known as the Mullins School. Pigg says the demolition project is on hold while he determines his next step. H...More >>

  • POSTPONED: Tazewell: Beach Night at Tazewell High School - Live bands at 7 p.m., fireworks at dark
  • CANCELED: Beckley: Fireworks following WV Miners game at Linda K. Epling Stadium. Game begins at 7:05 p.m.
  • RESCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY: Peel Chestnut Mountain: Annual fireworks and music celebration, at Synan Farm near Pocahontas, Va. - Tazewell County. Event begins at 6 p.m., fireworks at dark.

July 4

  • Bluefield: Fireworks at Bowen Field, following Jays game. Game begins at 7:05 p.m.
  • Princeton: Celebration at Hunnicutt Stadium. Events including car show and live music begin at 9 a.m.; fireworks at dark.
  • Alderson: Annual 4th of July celebration. Fireworks begin at 10:15 p.m. Full slate of events scheduled through Monday, July 8. Click for more details
  • Beckley: Fireworks at 9:30 p.m. in area of Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.
  • Pocahontas, Va: Town of Pocahontas fireworks and music at dark, Pocahontas Park.
  • Princeton: Flag raising at Ramey Chevrolet, 10 a.m. Color guard, national anthem and light refreshments.
  • Tazewell, Va: Independence Day celebration at Historic Crab Orchard Museum from 10-4. Click here for more

  • Bluefield: All-American Celebration at Chicory Square, begins at noon.
  • Beckley: Independence Day Celebration, Beckley Motorsports Park; featuring "Racing Rascals" children's boxcar race. Begins at 7 p.m.
