W.Va. continues to prepare for Boy Scout jamboree

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia is continuing to prepare for the Boy Scouts of America's upcoming national jamboree.

More than 40,000 Scouts and leaders are expected to attend the national gathering that occurs every four years.

The jamboree runs July 15 to 24 at the Summit outdoor adventure site in southern West Virginia.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin this week issued a proclamation enabling the rapid deployment of additional emergency services nine counties.

During the event, about 6,000 Scouts will perform off-site community service projects located in Fayette, Greenbrier, McDowell, Mercer, Monroe, Nicholas, Raleigh, Summers and Wyoming counties.

Tomblin also has taken additional steps to help ensure the health and safety of the traveling Scouts, and maintain the health and safety of local community members.
