OAK HILL (WVVA) -- A project that's been 18 months in the works is now complete in Fayette County.

Thursday is the first day the county's new 911 and Emergency Services Center is fully operational.  They switched their systems over in the morning.

The nearly $2 million new building was funded through the money from telephone calls to 911.

For the director, David Neal, this has been a dream come true.  He says he's been wanting it to happen for the past 16 years, and now he's relieved the process is over.

"It's been quite stressful making sure we had all the details taken care of," says Neal.  "There's a whole lot that goes into a 911 operation and an emergency operation as a whole, a lot."

With the new technology at the center, dispatchers can pinpoint the location of a call within a meter radius, and all calls will be recorded electronically.
