Two suspects in custody after false 911 call in Fayette Co.

ANSTED (WVVA) -- What was originally reported to 911 operators as an attempted robbery and breaking and entering, ended up being a crime of different sorts.

The Fayette County 911 Center received a call around 2:30 Tuesday morning of two suspects breaking windows at the Shell station in Ansted and stealing merchandise.  Deputies arrived at the scene shortly after and found the business to be unharmed, but saw two men fleeing from the area.

The Sheriff's Deputies followed the men on foot through several residential yards and a wooded area of Ansted before catching them.

Police arrested Jonathan Crist, 18, of Victor.  Crist is charged with obstructing a police officer and fleeing on foot from a police officer -- both misdemeanor offenses.  He'll be headed to Southern Regional Jail pending an arraignment from the Fayette County Magistrate with a $1000 bond.

The second suspect, who Crist admitted made the false 911 call, is a 17-year-old juvenile from the area.  He's been released to his parents, but the Sheriff's Office anticipates a juvenile petition will be filed for several misdemeanor offenses.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Department is still investigating this case.
