Jays open Appy League season with 5-0 win

BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - Thursday was the big night for baseball as the Bluefield Blue Jays opened the Appalachian League at Bowen Field against the Greenville Astros.

Blue Jays and pitcher Chase Dejong looking to start things off strong in front of a big opening nght crowd, but Greenville would get going with a stand up double from Marc Wik.

Later in the first, catcher Jorge Saez would launch a rocket to second to get the Astros out and end the inning.

Bluefield's turn in the second and Mitch Nay would rip one to right field off the wall to bring home Saez.

Matt Dean would look to add to the score in the same inning and sends it up the gap. The Astros centerfielder would bobble the ball as Dean brings Nay around to extend the lead to 2-0..

It would stay that way until Eric Arce launched a three-run triple to right.

The blue Jays would go on to take opening night 5-0.
