The sesquicentennial continues in Raleigh Co.

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- People from all over the two Virginias, even all over the country came to celebrate West Virginia's birthday in Raleigh County.

Tamarack, nicknamed the Best of West Virginia, was showing off its absolute finest today with Civil War re-enactors, including Abraham Lincoln.

Plus, guests could sample the regular West Virginia foods, arts and crafts that Tamarack has to offer. The celebration was complete with birthday cake and a lesson about the defining time that West Virginia entered the Union as a state.

"[It's] the only state in the United States that was born as a direct result of the Civil War," says Stephen Cassle, a Civil War re-enactor.  "It's considered to be the very crossroads of our being as far as the United States goes."

June 20 also marks the ten year birthday of the Tamarack conference center, bringing in more people from the region to its facilities.
