LEWISBURG, W. Va (WVVA)-- Greenbrier County also celebrated West Virginia's 150th birthday on Thursday.
Events included a big birthday bash outside Carnegie Hall. There was live music and a sesquicentennial cake designed like the WV flag.
The Greenbrier Valley Visitor Center also had an Open House to welcome travelers to West Virginia on the special holiday.
People in Lewisburg say there's no place like home, especially on WV Day.
"I love it here," said Ron Magruder who attended the festivities. "I've lived everywhere, from Tokyo to Montreal, to Kansas City and LA. I've lived in 20 different places, and this is where I choose to retire."
WVVA asked Ron about what kept Southern WV on his mind. He said, "I fell in love with the people, the value system that's here."
