ANSTED (WVVA) - Two individuals were taken into custody in Fayette County after placing a false 911 call.

A call was received through the Fayette County 911 Center at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday stating a pair of individuals were breaking out windows in the Ansted area.

The caller further stated that the individuals had broken a window at the Shell station and might be in the process of stealing from the store.

When officers arrived, they discovered no windows had actually been broken at the business. As they were checking to see if other buildings in the area had been damaged they spotted two male subjects fleeing on foot.

After a pursuit through several yards and a wooded area, deputies apprehended the individuals.

Jonathan D. Crist, 18, of Victor was charged with the misdemeanor offenses of obstructing a police officer and fleeing on foot.

Police say Crist admitted that he and an accomplice made the false 911 call.

The accomplice, a 17-year-old, from the area was released to his parents. He is expected to be charged with several misdemeanor offenses.

Crist was held at Southern Regional Jail on $1,000 bond.
