CMC celebrating 5-year anniversary

PRINCETON (NEWS RELEASE) - In July 2008, The Del McCoury Band took the stage for the inaugural show of the community's first performing arts center of its kind. One hundred and seven regular season performances and countless school performances, recitals and special events later, the Chuck Mathena Center in Princeton, WV has hit the five year milestone. Fittingly enough, The Del McCoury Band will take the stage again, half of a decade later, to celebrate the special anniversary on July 13, 2013.

According to national business statistics, only about 35% of organizations similar to CMC make it to the five year mark. With a full season lineup running until June 2014, CMC has an eye on hitting the sixth year and beyond. "While we are extremely thankful to have been a vital member of the community for half of a decade, we cannot lose focus on making it a full decade and beyond." comments Ashley Dillow, Marketing Director at CMC. "With the hits to the economy, leisure and entertainment spending is the first to be cut from a tight budget. We work each season to keep our ticket prices as low as possible, and this season features an average ticket price of $19, well below the national average of nearly $50".

The past five years have included Grammy award winning artists, internationally acclaimed performances, Broadway-caliber musicals and more. The sixth season is following in those footsteps with live concerts including bluegrass, gospel and rock & roll, musicals, theatre, and even a ten pound turkey. "Audiences will leave with more than just the joy of live theatre this year. One lucky spectator will be the proud owner of a brand new frozen turkey after the ‘Queen of Bingo' comedy in January. This show is just an example of the fun awaiting audiences when they walk into our theatre" says Dillow.

Several individuals have been vital to this milestone, including a staff of volunteers that make up the vast majority of CMC representatives. "CMC is so fortunate to have an enthusiastic group of people that dedicate their time to this organization. The doors couldn't open each day without this amazing group of ladies and gentlemen." commented Roger Hughes, House and Box Office Manager at CMC. Unfortunately, the volunteer staff was reduced this past month with the sudden loss of longtime friend and CMC volunteer, Barbara Tankersley. Tankersley contributed more than one hundred hours of time annually to the organization. Despite the devastating loss, the organization is looking forward to kicking off the sixth season in a celebratory spirit. "While we are all extremely sad to not have Barbara with us, we know that without the amazing work that she and the rest of our wonderful volunteers have done for us, we wouldn't even be celebrating the occasion…." says Hughes.

Currently, the anniversary celebration is set to take place with The Del McCoury Band taking the stage at 8pm on July 13th, but Dillow notes that additional events could be added to the anniversary celebration.
