BRUSHFORK (WVVA) - Five people -- including at least one child -- were injured after a two-car collision at the Route 52-Airport Road intersection in Bluewell Monday morning.

The crash occurred around 9:15 a.m. when a red Mercury Tracer traveling east on Route 123 and a green Ford Explorer traveling west collided at the intersection, according to officials on scene with the Bluewell Fire Department.

Four individuals in the Tracer had to be extricated from the vehicle. Three were transported to nearby hospitals, while one -- a male child -- was airlifted.

The driver of the Explorer was also injured and transported to a nearby hospital.

The extent of injuries suffered is unknown at this time.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

In addition to the Bluewell FD, rescue squads from Bluefield, W.Va., and Bluefield, Va., as well as the West Virginia State Police, responded to the scene.
