LEWISBURG, W. Va (WVVA)-- Driving through Lewisburg, you may see something new.
It's a flagpole, erected at The Seasons nursing home on Flag Day to honor the veterans there as well as those in the community, and to remember prisoners of war.
In a ceremony, a local JROTC raised the American and POW flags on the new pole, then went through the traditional flag folding and presented it to a veteran in the audience.
Organizers said they hope the new pole will be a reminder for the community.
Debbie Aldridge, Guest Services Director of "The Seasons," said, "We also would like for people, as they go past Holt Lane, to take a moment and look at that flagpole and remember our veterans and our POW's as well."
She hopes the nursing home's nearly a dozen veterans see it, and feel loved.
"We are very honored for them to see this flag pole and when they go out every day they remember how much we love and care for them," she said.
The crowd also released balloons to show appreciation for veterans and those currently serving this Flag Day.
