Man walks for hunger in Greenbrier Co.

LEWISBURG, W. Va (WVVA)-- A man is walking for miles in each county of West Virginia, hoping to end hunger in the state.

Thursday that man, Tom Knopp, was in Greenbrier County.

Lewisburg city leaders met with Tom before his journey through Caldwell to the Greenbrier River Trail.

Knopp said he walks to raise awareness about hunger, something that affects most communities.

He asks people to donate to their local food pantries, or make a check payable to the Mountaineer Food Bank, the Huntington Area Food Bank.

"Any food bank or pantry in Greenbrier County would be great," he said.

His walk is called "Walking Out Hunger," and his goal is to walk as many miles as he can in each of the 55 counties.

"I've learned that we've got some beautiful people in the state of West Virginia," he said, "Caring people and giving people. The bad thing I've learned about-- we've got so many people in need. Some of our food pantries are not fortunate enough to stay open as planned because they've run out of food."

Tom said he does all this for the glory of God, and he wants to support local food pantries to feed the hungry in the state because he knows firsthand what hunger is like.
