PRINCETON (WVVA) - A man who admitted to killing his wife before taking the couple's young daughter and leading police on a two-day manhunt last year was sentenced to life with mercy Wednesday.

Tracy Lee Atwell was in court before Judge Derek Swope in Mercer County.

Atwell pleaded guilty last month to charges of first-degree murder and abduction of a child by a family member in connection with the events of April 2012 in which his wife, Christina was found dead inside her Rock area home.

Christine's family were in attendance and said, "This is all confusing for us." "We want retribution, I don't think that's a lot to ask."

An Amber Alert was issued for the couple's daughter after Tracy Atwell stole his parents' vehicle and fled with the child.

The two were found approximately 48 hours later in a wooded area near Spanishburg.

Atwell received the life sentence for the murder charge. He was sentenced to an additional 1-5 years for the abduction charge.

He will be eligible for parole in 15 years.
