Richmond airport evacuated due to threatening call


RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Richmond International Airport has been evacuated due to a threat.

Airport spokesman Troy Bell says a phone call of a threatening nature was received shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The airport says in a posting on Twitter that K-9 teams have been brought in to sweep the terminal. As of 8:30 a.m., nothing had been found.

The parking decks have been checked and cleared. Passengers are being allowed to go to their vehicles and leave the airport.

Katie Schexnayder arrived at the airport to catch an 8 a.m. flight to Nashville, Tenn. The 24-year-old Richmond resident says passengers were evacuated around 6:30 a.m. As of 8 a.m. at least 200 passengers were still waiting outside, roughly a quarter-mile from the terminal.
